Horary Astrology
What is it?

Horary Astrology is the astrology of addressing specific questions. A person will ask an Astrologer a question, who will then cast a chart at the time the question is asked in an effort to divine an answer. This is a form of astrological divination. It is often the most misunderstood type of astrology today because it is based not on the person’s Natal chart but on a chart cast at a particular moment in time in order to answer a very specific question.
There is no need to read transits, progressions and birth charts to do a horary reading, however, the rules of horary astrology are extremely complex and difficult to master. There are a few main rules, however, for Horary Astrology that will give you a feel for the main tenets of this unique science.
1. Time and Place Affect the Question. If you have a question, right down the time and date it comes into your head, as well as where you were when it occurred to you. This is essential to having an accurate chart cast.
2. You Can’t Ask Again. If you don’t like the answer or want a “second opinion,” you won’t get it by asking again. Once the question is asked and the chart is set up, that’s it.
3. Sometimes It’s None of Your Business. You may have an Astrologer tell you that the chart can’t reveal the answer – this may very well be the truth. In general, if the first three degrees or the last three degrees of a sign are rising, the chart isn’t going to be accurate and the answer will be invalid – it is as though the planets are telling you that it’s something you don’t need to know yet.
4. Houses Move Forward. If a planet is within five degrees of a house’s cusp, it will actually fall into the next house moving forward.
5. The Moon is Important. The moon symbolizes action, including what is past and what is yet to come. It’s aspect in the chart is important to determining a course of action.
It is important to understand that most Astrologers today do not claim to answer questions as specific as, “Am I getting divorced this year?” Some astrologers may claim to be able to answer this definitively, but most will tell you that the stars provide guidance and probability rather than yes or no answers. If the astrologer says the answer is “yes,” he is ruling out free will. Astrology does infer that we are puppets being manipulated by the stars, so saying that the stars are declaring divorce is sure thing is far too fatalistic for most of today’s Astrologers.
A more appropriate question, then, might be, “Are we likely to consider or get divorced in the future?” This is a question that can be answered, “Yes,” without making divorce inevitable. It clearly indicates the path you are headed down and warns you of what the future may hold. From there, what you do with the information is entirely up to you. If you want the divorce, relax and do nothing and events will unfold as they have been foretold in the stars. If, however, you want to change your fate, you can change your actions and choose another course.
Horary astrology is a method of finding answers to questions in order to clarify paths and gain insight and guidance into particular problems. It does not mean that the outcome is inevitable, merely likely – this makes you better prepared to work within the confines of the planets’ influences on you.
